Dental Implants

A missing tooth has more than an impact on the form and function of your smile: it can lead to serious oral health issues. At West Lake Dental in Loveland, CO, Dr. Andy Maples provides dental implants as a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. Learn why implants are considered the gold standard for tooth replacement...

Dental Implants Help Support Your Health

Made of titanium, dental implants act as artificial tooth roots. However, they do more than support your natural teeth: they also stimulate the bone tissue in your jawbone, keeping your smile healthy and strong. When you lose a tooth, the lack of stimulation causes the bone tissue to begin to deteriorate. If bone loss is allowed to continue, it can cause adjacent teeth to begin to shift. This can lead to an increased risk of additional tooth loss. Another negative consequence of a compromised jawbone is that your face will begin to appear sunken, making you look older than you actually are.

Traditional dentures and bridges only replace the crown of the tooth and do not provide a solution to bone loss. Titanium implants take reconstructive dentistry one step further by seamlessly replicating the entire structure of your natural teeth to reinvigorate your oral health.

I am a retired doctor and new to the area. I needed to find a new dentist and was referred to Dr. Maples through family members. I must tell you firstly that I was envious of the manner in which his office is operated. I had practiced my profession for thirty-six years and have not seen a better run operation. The staff is highly skilled and were a kind and caring group. Each time I've visited the office I have been treated like a family member. Rarely do you find such a consistently genuine dental office.

I have been going to Westlake Dental for several years now and have been very satisfied with the services. The office is very professional, clean and beautiful. Dr. Andy and the rest of the staff are friendly, caring and very professional. I have my regular routine cleanings done there, as well as some major restorative work, such as a dental bridge, with very good results. Westlake Dental business office is also very good - their insurance billing process is impeccable and they are always easy to reach. Another word, I highly recommend Westlake Dental.

A Closer Look at Dental Implants

If you are missing a single tooth, a dental implant can be paired with a crown to recreate the tooth from root to crown. Implant-supported crowns are the most complete tooth replacement method available and can help prevent bone loss in the jaw.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Lifestyle factors and health conditions can have an effect on your candidacy for implants. Dr. Maples can evaluate your candidacy at our Loveland, CO, dentistry office. A discussion of your medical history, any concerns you may have, and your overall goals will help determine if implants are an appropriate option for supporting replacement teeth. Factors that can impact your candidacy for implants include:

Bone Density in Your Jaw

If you have lived with a missing tooth or teeth for a long time, the bone tissue in your jaw may be too compromised to support dental implants. If this is the case, Dr. Maples can perform a bone grafting procedure to replace lost tissue and encourage new growth in order to help restore your candidacy.

Non-Smoker

It is no secret: smoking is detrimental to both your dental and overall health in a number of ways. Smoking weakens your immune system and in doing so, inhibits your body's ability to heal. It also can increase the risk of implant failure. If you are interested in restoring your smile with implants, you will need to quit for good several months in advance of surgery.

Gum Disease

Periodontal disease will require treatment before you can receive dental implants. Healthy gums are essential to provide the stable base necessary for implant-supported replacement teeth.

Controlled Diabetes

The risks of surgery can increase for patients with diabetes and other autoimmune disorders. However, patients with controlled diabetes can expect to experience success rates on par with those who do not have diabetes.

Dental Implant TREATMENT PROCESS

"We can perform every step of the procedure in our Loveland office."

Procedure Steps

"We can perform every step of the procedure in our Loveland office."

Consultation

During a consultation, Dr. Maples will assess your oral health and review your medical history to determine whether implants are right for you. Dr. Maples will go over your treatment options and answer any questions you have about the procedure. He may also assess bone density in your jaw using a cone beam CT scanner, which creates a 3D image of your mouth and its internal structures.

Implant Placement

Once we have determined that you are a viable candidate for implants, your treatment will begin with the surgical placement of the implant or implants into your jawbone.

Osseointegration

During the healing process, the titanium implant will fuse with the bone tissue in your jaw in a process called osseointegration. This step typically takes several months to form a strong bond with the jawbone, which in turn creates a solid foundation for implant-supported restorations.

Abutment Placement

After the initial healing phase, the doctor will place abutments on the implants. Abutments are the connecting piece that attaches restorations to your implants. Your gums will need some time to heal around the abutments, which typically takes a couple of weeks.

Restoration

Once you have healed from the second procedure, you will return to our Loveland, CO, office where Dr. Maples will attach the custom crown, bridge, or denture to the implants.

Sedation Dentistry Options For Dental Implant Surgery

We understand that the dental implant procedure can sound intimidating, especially for those with dental anxiety or those who have trouble sitting for long periods. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry options in addition to local anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide

Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide can help patients relax almost instantly during dental procedures. The effects wear off within minutes, so you can still drive yourself home.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation typically involves taking a prescribed pill on the day of the surgery. The effects take longer to wear off, so you should have someone help you get home.

Financing Your Dental Implants

To help make our treatments more accessible, we’ve partnered with LendingClub so patients can break up the cost into affordable monthly payments. Patients who pay the amount in full on the day of treatment will also receive a 5% discount on the total cost.
